Nigeria Elections:Thuggery and Hooliganism

The recent events in  the Delta state governorship election re-run only depicts that Nigerians are not ready to join the league of civilised world. Certain people have said that what Nigerian need is total empowerment, and the only way to do that is by resisting any forms of political parties impositions. Some have argued that the re-election in Delta state  “was widely rigged and that INEC should immediately retract their falsified results”.

There are also suggestions from some quaters that INEC should  ban and prosecute any aspirant whose electionship was later deemed fraudulent and  annuelled. Some believe that this will at least send a message to others that rigging is not acceptable in Nigeria Elections.

Although corruption is everywhere even in the western world, however, the level of election thuggery and hooliganism in Nigeria appears very high. What should we do to curb election and political Godfatherism in Nigeria. Should Nigeria introduce electronic voting systems ? how can INEC tackle violence and other malpractices in Elections?
